Freimuthstraße 2
Conversion and refurbishment: from dance hall to residential building
Description
Set in the centre of Falkensee, the building was erected around 1920 and converted in several phases, originally as a tavern with a dance hall. Today it is being converted for private residential use and refurbished to higher energy standards.
Step-free accessibility, comfortable living and a refined design language are the key objectives of the conversion. We are creating an outstanding residential building for the future occupants. The architectural detail carries the design ambition.

In context
The conversion of the historic building on Freimuthstraße in Falkensee is a characteristic example of substantial work with existing fabric: a building originally erected around 1920 as a tavern with a dance hall is being converted, step by step, into a comfortable private residence. The historic substance is preserved while the living quality is brought to contemporary standards.
Step-free accessibility, energy refurbishment and a refined design language go hand in hand. Accessible living is in growing demand in Falkensee and the wider Havelland: demographic change and the region’s increasing appeal as a residential location for Berlin commuters make projects of this kind an important task for regional architectural practice.
As a BDA architectural office based in Falkensee, we bring the experience from numerous conversion and refurbishment projects across Brandenburg to bear, creating residential buildings with high spatial quality from historic substance. From heritage coordination through energy concept to accessible detailed planning, we provide complete architectural support. Comparable work also runs through Spandau, Charlottenburg and the western edge of Berlin.
